Runabay debut album

Thursday 25th, 2019

The debut album contains a collection of songs rich in soundscape, melody and authenticity; a soundscape influenced by the rugged shoreline where the band grew up.

‘Between the Lines’ features collaborations with Dublin Poet Stephen James Smith, along with the incredible talents of the Arco String Quartet who have featured on albums from artists such as Soak and Foy Vance.

Recent influences ranging from Public Service Broadcasting to The Olllam to Radiohead have informed and modified the band’s sound, bringing shades of folk, electronic and experimentation to an album of harmony, honesty and atmosphere.

“Between the Lines is an exploration, through introspection, into the theories of understanding of emotion and human action. Exploring how past decisions have shaped our future. Reflections on early life - childhoods of adversity throughout school, and bullying. Putting wrongs right and putting harmony back into broken relationships. The toil, the adversity, the frustrations of 'critical' approval and the world of social media. All imbued with a strong sense of place – the island of Ireland.”

“Hailing from the Glens of Antrim, we are coastal creatures and our song writing has been undeniably shaped by an innate sense of place and pride in our surroundings, our people and culture.”

The current single from the album, ‘Dig’, is not only a masterful track in its own right but a fitting introduction to the debut album featuring the craftsmanship and spoken word genius of beat poet Stephen James Smith who adds intensity and class to this epic soundscape from the off.  Stephen’s ‘We Must Create’ performance is embedded in a lush landscape of strings, accompanied by the talents of the Arco String Quartet.

The band are set to embark on a UK tour in September / October, with a schedule of gigs set to be announced soon.

Band line-up:

John McManus - Vocals/Guitar, Gary Graham - Guitar/Vocals, Gerard McHugh - Vocals/Percussion, Declan McCartan - Cello/Vocals, Michael McKinney – Electric Bass/Double Bass, Rory McAuley - Drums.
