Turn Biography

Turn were formed in 1998 when Ollie Cole got together with Ian Melady to play music. The Kells duo had previously played together in Swampshack. Ollie met Gavin Fox in The Factory, invited him to join the band and Turn were formed. In 1999, Turn were signed to Infectious Records. The band wasted no time and soon a series of limited edition singles were released - 'Facedown', 'Beretta' and 'Beeswax'. These were soon followed by their debut album release 'Antosocial'. The album was well received and the band toured extensively in support of their release. The band returned to Ireland to discover that they had been dropped by Infectious.

While other bands may have decided to call it a day, Turn continued on. In early 2002, they released their 'In Position' E.P. Their new material was less angst-driven than some of their earlier releases and showcased Ollie's songwriting talents. Turn followed up 'In Position' with the double A-Side release 'Another Year Over / Summer Song' and looked like they were on the verge of recapturing their early promise. However, at the end of 2002, the band were rocked when Gavin decided to quit to join Scottish band Idlewild. The band quickly recruited Alan Lee who had come to prominence as bassist in Skindive.

In March of 2003, Turn finally released 'Forward', their second album on their own Nurture label. The album charted well in Ireland. The band toured throughout the summer and ended the year in supporting The Frames at the Olympia as well as headlining their own gig at Whelena. 2004 promised to be an exciting one for Turn as the band returns to the studio to record the follow up to 'Forward' and an ever-increasing fanbase.

In June 2004, after lengthy touring in promotion of Forward, the band parted company with Bassist Alan Lee.
