Derry trio Cherym burst onto the Northern Irish scene in 2018 and haven’t slowed down since. Made up of lead vocalist/guitarist Hannah, bassist/backup vocalist Nyree and drummer/backing vocalist Alannagh, the band was formed as a cheeky response to their musical surroundings.
Performing on the rooftop of a boutique hotel, the three-piece led with a racket that reflected Northern Ireland’s close affinity to DIY punk and rock music.
Built on those foundations and with an ear for a pop melody, Cherym’s live performance was a gut-punch of energy and Riot grrrl DIY enthusiasm.
Their self-released debut EP garnered them fans all over Ireland, earning them slots at a number of prominent festivals and support roles for notable bands such as local legends ‘And So I Watch You From Afar.’ The group were nominated for both ‘Best Single’ and ‘Best Newcomer’ in the 2018 NI Music Awards.
The band released their latest single ‘Abigail’ in November 2019, which has been their most successful release yet, with support from both DSP editorial play-listing and National radio. In February 2020, the band embarked on a series of dates with ‘Yonaka’, including a sold-out show in The Grand Social in Dublin. Cherym are currently working toward the release of their next single, ‘Weird Ones’, which will be released in late April in support of their debut UK/IRE Tour.
