A jazzer, a rocker, a stoner, a student of the classical arts and a blues man, all in one room in Dublin city, blending 5 styles of music in a dingy studio in a sketchy back alley. No one said that a combination like this should work, but that was 2 years ago and here they are, as if the spirit of Liam Gallagher's original two front teeth asked the universe to align itself just to give these 5 lads a chance: 'Academy Lane'.
From Costa del Clongriffin to Tallaght(fornia), there should have been no way that a project like Academy Lane was to be feasible, with all the boys on either no money at all or minimum wage, their last paychecks have been spent on getting out and rehearsing, one time, consisting of walking from Ballinteer to Fairview in order to rehearse, there's a magical chemistry with the band that nobody involved previously ever experienced. There's been gigs played in front of 3 people, and still played (despite missing the last train from Skerries to Town at 11pm). There's been frustrations and there's been laughter, but most importantly, there's been five friendships forged out of the creative embers in which Academy Lane thrive on. With a reasonable social media following, the bands first single was released on Spotify and hit over 1,000 listens in the space of a week, the proof is truly in the pudding as 2 years of strenuous work has slowly been paying off. There's been times where college assignments and textbooks have been shoved into guitar cases and reluctantly bought into the studio, to be hastily and warily finished between songs.
Academy Lane aren't just a band, they're a unit.
